Miranda Muir Recognized as Rising Star
Las Vegas, Nev. – November 27, 2017 – During the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) 127th Annual Convention, Miranda Muir of the Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show & Osceola County Fair in Kissimmee, Fla., was honored with the Rising Star Award, according to IAFE President and CEO Marla Calico. The Convention is being held Nov. 26-29 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Rising Star Award was created by the IAFE Young Professionals Initiative (YPI) to recognize leadership and industry contributions of young IAFE members. Nominees are any employee, volunteer, or board member under age 40 of a member fair, show, exposition, or exhibition in good standing with the IAFE.
Muir grew up in New Berlin, Ill., across the street from the Sangamon County Fairgrounds. Her grandfather served on the board of directors at the Sangamon County Fair for more then 20 years, which is how she got her start. She volunteered and worked in the office of the fair for 18 years. While at the Sangamon County Fair, Muir worked with Fair Secretary Elizabeth McDevitt, who encouraged her to be a bigger part of the fair industry.
Muir began as the Osceola County Fair manager in 2013. During her time there, she has instituted several new programs. The fair is a non-profit with more than 250 members. She began a "star volunteer" program to encourage the membership to get more involved. She began the Miss Osceola Scholarship Pageant, made barn videos to increase traffic to the barns, and began a "Trunk or Treat" event in the fall to increase non-fair usage of the grounds. In addition, Muir was able to beautify the grounds with new signage, including adding visual screens to hide utility boxes, and instituted an all new Greeter Program and Information Booth.
In addition to serving her fair, Muir actively networks with other young fair professionals by serving as chair of the YPI Steering Committee for both Florida and IAFE Zone 2. She is a member of Rotary of America and active in multiple Chambers of Commerce.
